Hello parents and students of Clayton Valley Charter High School!
My name is Lydia Lim and I am thoroughly excited to be the Band Director at CVCHS. I have been a musician for 21 years; a pianist for 10 and a percussionist for 17. I grew up in Los Altos, California and participated in all the school bands at Springer Elementary, Blach Intermediate, and Los Altos High School.
Starting at age 8 I also participated in private orchestras; the Peninsula Youth Orchestra for 9 years and the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra for 1 year before graduating high school. Between these two private orchestras I had the privilege of touring in New York, Spain, Germany, France, and the Czech Republic.
I went on to receive my Bachelor’s of Music in Percussion Performance at the University of Southern California where I performed with USC’s Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble. After 4 years of performance I realized that my heart was in teaching so I stayed at USC and received my Master’s of Art in Teaching Music as well as my teaching credential.
After finishing my Master’s degree, I worked for one year as a middle school band director at a German-American International school in Menlo Park, California. I was then offered the job to be a band director at Foothill High School in Pleasanton, California and worked there for two years.
Teaching high school band is my favorite thing to do; I am passionate about educating young musicians to be excellent performers, disciplined scholars, and gracious people. I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you. Let's go Eagles!
Best,
Lydia Lim
